You Were Created to Thrive: A Christ-Centered Approach to Whole-Person Well-Being

You were created to thrive!
You were created to thrive!

As a Christian mental health coach, I deeply believe that caring for your well-being is not just important—it’s part of how you honor the life God has entrusted to you. But what does it really look like to thrive, not just get through the day?

True, lasting well-being is holistic. It’s nurtured through your relationship with God, your connections with others, and the way you care for your mind and body.

Start with your foundation—your time with God. Even a few quiet moments in prayer, Scripture, or stillness can bring a sense of peace, clarity, and grounding that carries into the rest of your day. You don’t have to strive—just create intentional space to be with Him. Time with God isn’t another task on your list; it’s where you are renewed.

Another important piece is your relationships. Are you surrounding yourself with people who support you and speak life into you? Do you feel safe, seen, and valued? At the same time, are there areas where you may need to set gentle, healthy boundaries to protect your energy and peace?

Caring for yourself also means tending to your mental and emotional health. Pay attention to what’s happening internally and what thoughts are shaping your mindset? What emotions might need space to be processed? Practices like journaling, prayerful reflection, and simple moments of mindfulness can help you slow down, reduce stress, and become more aware of what you need.

Your physical health matters, too. Your body plays a vital role in your overall well-being. Are you getting the rest you need? Are you staying active—even if it’s something simple like walking around your neighborhood? Movement can lift your mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and support long-term health. It’s also important to consider how you’re nourishing your body. Small, intentional choices in rest, movement, and nutrition can make a meaningful difference in how you feel each day.

Let the adventures begin!

And don’t forget to make space for fun adventures. What are the activities you enjoy doing? What energizes you? What brings you peace or makes you feel alive? Whether it’s time in nature, a creative hobby, or laughter with loved ones, these moments are not extras—they’re part of a healthy, balanced life.

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Seeking support—whether it’s from a trusted friend or a mental health professional—is a sign of strength, not weakness.

As you begin to care for yourself in these areas, remember: this isn’t about perfection. It’s about being intentional, extending grace to yourself, and taking small, consistent steps that add up over time.

Self-care is important to me and where I find my strength, peace, and energy - because it's centered on God-first. I create time for my relationship with Abba God each morning. This sets the tone for my day and I know - not matter what comes my way - God's got me.

Being part of a church community is also important to me, whether in-person or online, along with my regular small group Bible study. These spaces help me grow in my relationship with God while also staying connected to meaningful community.

I also make space for the people I love. Weekly date time with my husband and regular moments with my girlfriends help me stay grounded in healthy, life-giving relationships. I’ve learned how essential connection is for overall well-being.

On a practical level, I’m intentional with my daily habits, including my morning and evening routines. My evening routine often includes walking my two Heelers, which keeps me active - and I love it! My heelers are good for my mental and emotional well-being, because, as I mentioned, being active reduces stress and anxiety.

Having a healthy mindset helps me boost my mental health - and it's great for my marriage, and how I show up in everyday life!

Take a few quiet moments this week to reflect on one or two of these questions. You don’t have to answer them all—just start where you feel led.

🌿 Self-Reflection for Whole-Person Care

Connecting with God

  • Where have I felt closest to God recently?

  • What is one way I can create space to be still and listen this week?

  • Is there something I need to surrender or trust God with more fully right now?

Relationships and Community

  • Which relationships are currently life-giving, and which feel draining?

  • Who might need encouragement from me this week?

  • Where might I need to set a healthy, loving boundary?

Mental and Emotional Well-Being

  • What thoughts have been shaping my mindset lately—are they true and life-giving?

  • What has been weighing on my heart, and have I given myself space to process it?

  • What brings me a sense of peace or calm when I feel overwhelmed?

Physical Health and Energy

  • What has been energizing me lately? What has been depleting me?

  • How am I caring for my body through rest, staying active, and healthy nourishment?

  • What is one small, realistic step I can take this week to support my physical well-being?

Remember: You weren’t created just to survive—you were created to thrive.
